Welcome to the parish website of the Binsey Mission Community, which is made up of 12 Anglican Churches and a Methodist Chapel in the northern area of the Lake District. The parish of Binsey covers a total area of 250 square miles and is situated between the towns of Keswick, Cockermouth and Wigton, with over half of the parish being in the Lake District National Park. The Mission Community takes its name from Binsey, which sits in the centre of the parish and is the most northerly of the Wainwright fells. From the summit each part of the parish can be seen.
Thankfully, most of our churches are now holding Sunday services again, but not as frequently as before and two of our churches are not able to have services at present. Currently, social distancing and the wearing of face masks remain in place for each of our services, in line with Government and Church of England guidelines.
Normally, all of our churches would be open during daytime hours for people to be able to visit and also to use for private prayer. However, due to the on-going restrictions, all of them are now locked from time to time, especially in the 3 days before and the 3 days after a service is held. Therefore, if you wish to visit any of our churches it would be sensible to contact the Team Rector or one of the Churchwardens beforehand. In the same way, we are not advertising our Sunday services in the usual way, but if you contact the churchwardens or the Team Rector, they will be able to inform you what services are taking place in Binsey. (Services for the week ahead in News & Events)
Here in Binsey, it is our privilege to serve each of our small rural villages, and as a church community we seek to bring something of God’s love for us in Jesus Christ to all who live in our parish, along with those who work and visit here. It is encouraging that church services and activities are now happening again, and trust that one day life will become more straightforward again. We give thanks for the small steps we are now making and more importantly for the many ways in which our village communities are continuing to show their love, care and support for one another.
With our prayers and best wishes,
Stephen and Peter
